Greta Bell

I was lucky to be born to a family who loved and valued art and artists. My parents would bring their children on adventures to visit artists in their studios, author readings and musical events.  We grew up living with and loving art created by craftspeople, folk artists and fine artists of every genre. I played the violin horribly, wrote stories with no direction or conclusions, danced myself into a corner, hand quilted, made a clay oven and baked bread……

I started painting after many decades of living. I was inspired when visiting my friends grandmother. She gave me a brush, paint and an old door to paint on.  Many paintings proceeded, though no formal classes were taken, reading about techniques and materials, plus conversations with working artists set me on my way.

To be creative, authentic, and passionate  was admired and fostered in my childhood home and propels me to this day.

Currently I am working with marionettes, mask making, oil painting and stop motion films.

I  live in the Fox Valley of Northern Illinois and travel to see my wonderful friends and family.
